What is one of the biggest mistakes that local businesses make with their websites?

Choosing the wrong Keywords is the answer.

Most of the time when I take on new clients, I see that their $2,000 dollar website that was built by well known web design companies didnt do the keyword research to fully optimize their site to get more visitors and customers for the local business.

Why dont they do this? Because they dont know how to. SEO (search engine optimization) is a term thrown around today, and all it means is, that they will make the site search friendly for search engines, like google and yahoo etc.

But that has nothing to do with what the potential customers in your area looking for. That is where keyword research comes in. First you much know what potential customers are searching for online. Then you put those keyword in your sites content. You also must have content on the site. Not just a brief about your business type page. By doing this you will get better search results and more clients calling you or coming to your business instead of your competitors.
